About Us

Beliefs

We, the members of Union Church at Lake Martin, profess belief and faith in the triune God- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe the Holy Bible is the authority for our Christian beliefs. We accept the great Commission to spread the Gospel of the Grace of God to the ends of the earth, and to build up believers in the faith and knowledge of Christ for ourselves and for others who shall become members of Union Church at Lake Martin.

Articles Of Faith

The Holy Scripture contains all things necessary to receive salvation. We believe the Holy Scripture to be the Word of God and the inspired Word of God as given to the prophets and the apostles.

We believe in the one, Holy and living God, who is Creator, Sovereign and Preserver of all things visible and invisible. He is infinite in power, wisdom, justice, goodness, and love, and rules with gracious regard for the well-being and salvation of men. We believe the one God reveals Himself as the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, distinct but inseparable, eternally one in essence and power. We believe in Jesus Christ, truly God and truly man, in whom the divine and human are perfectly and inseparably united. He is the Eternal Word made flesh, the only begotten Son of the Father, born of the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. As Ministering Servant, He lived, suffered and died on the cross. He was buried, rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven to be with the Father, from whence He shall return. He is Eternal Savior and Mediator, who intercedes for us, and by Him all men will be judged. We believe in the Holy Spirit who proceeds from and is one in being with the Father and the Son. He convinces the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgement. He leads men through faithful response to the Gospel into the fellowship of the church. He comforts, sustains, and empowers the faithful and guides them into all truth.

We believe salvation involves the redemption of the whole man and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who, by His blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. There is not salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.

We believe the church is the community of all true believers in Christ under the Lordship of Christ. It is the redemptive fellowship in which the Word of God is preached, and the sacraments are administered according to Christ's own appointment. Under the discipline of the Holy Spirit the church exists for the maintenance of worship, the edification of believers, and the redemption of the world.

We believe the Sacraments, ordained by Christ, are symbols and pledges of the Christian's profession and of God's love toward us. They are means of Grace by which God works invisibly in us, quickening, strengthening, and confirming our faith in Him. Two sacraments are ordained by Christ: Baptism and the Lord's Supper. We believe baptism signifies entrance into the household of faith. Water used in baptism is symbolic of the washing away of the old self and an outward show of repentance, with the intention to lead a new life following the teachings of Jesus Christ. Pastors may baptize in a manner of their personal conviction while considering as much as possible the wishes of those to be baptized. Members shall not be treated differently in regard to their method of baptism. Children under the age of accountability may be dedicated at the request of the parents. Communion is to be held at least once per month and is open to all.

We believe marriage to be a covenant between a man and a woman according to their gender at birth. We believe sexuality to be a gift from God only clearly affirmed in the marriage bond. We do not condone the practice of homosexuality and consider this practice incompatible with Biblical teaching.
